This is the vibratory transition through a regressed future state, a state halted by the convex surroundings of misinterpretation and false pretences. Held in a space far away from the failures of the present, further and further dissolving, pulsing, imploding into itself while expanding beyond recognition."

KARL LARSSON - Fox Mask - UKS - Oslo

through October 6th 2013

1:1 An exhibition is a room with things. What did you say? A concept a technology for remembering. A mask a tool for forgetting. That small strip of doubt separating face and image. At the center of the exhibition is a photograph from the collection of W.B. Yeats. It is a picture of Michio Ito in his fox mask.* There are also objects: a replica of an antique folding chair, a carpet as make-up, the grey linen clothing of a stagehand. Invisible men moving invisible objects over an invisible stage.

Zach Harris - Echo Parked in a No Vex Cave - David Kordansky - LA

through August 17th 2013

Zach Harris makes objects that fall generally under the rubric of painting but that defy any attempt at easy categorization. Neither wholly representation nor wholly abstract, each work is resolved through a combination of technique, craft, and honing of vision. Furthermore, Harris pursues an idiosyncratic and highly personal vocabulary that paradoxically allows him to engage with an array of sources drawn from numerous cultural and natural contexts.

Ricci Albenda: Untitled - Andrew Kreps - NYC

through August 9th, 2013

Untitled is a simple experiment. Though similar in many ways to some of his Trompe l'oeil installations of the past, this installation does not attempt to fool the eye but rather relies on the viewer's suspension of disbelief. Like the ocean meeting the sky, the floor extends up the wall as a flat plane of color, while the ceiling descends to meet it at an infinite distance on the horizon. This horizon line is tilted slightly, loosening itself from the architecture to which it is attached, and destabilizing the viewer's relationship with the absolute level horizon with which we are all familiar. This tilt also allows the work to accommodate the majority of adult heights and their associated eye-levels. Thus, if everyone in the gallery were to migrate to a place for which the horizon coincided with their own eye-level, a tilted plane of heads would be created.

DAY BEFORE THIS PLACE - group show - Tanya Leighton - Berlin

through September 7th 2013

That morning, as the band of the treadmill moved at six miles per hour beneath her trainers, a news story flashed on the screen suspended from the low hanging drop-ceiling. “Chinese Woman Stuck Between Walls Mistaken For A Ghost, Rescued 7 Hours Later.”

SUNBATHERS - group show - 1857 - Oslo

through August 11th 2013

David Douard, Aude Pariset,Adele Röder, Camilla Wills

The sun rises over Oslo. Light green trees shoot leaves sending a thin mist of pollen through the city. Birds nest in the cracks between buildings, under the eaves of houses, on steel beams and concrete ledges, their constant cooing is heard almost everywhere. A badger rummages through a row of trashcans: “I am an animal,” he says in his thick badger accent.

PowerChoice – 10 - group show - Harbour - NYC

through August 4th 2013
Nicole Killian, Ryder Ripps, and Sandy Smith

Curated by Max Schreier

Harbor is pleased to present PowerChoice – 10, a three person exhibition on view for as long as it takes to beat The Legend of Zelda. The 54 useful colors generated by the Ricoh RP2C02 Picture Processing Unit (PPU) are brilliant and pervasive. For artists who are emerging at the moment, the Nintendo Entertainment System’s colors afforded by this PPU were often one of the first instances of beautiful, intense, and selective hues. The blues, purples, and greens were more saturated than anything that came over television airwaves in the mid to late 1980s. Watching the surreal images change as the the side scrolling screen moved avatars through imagined space was often prominent in shaping young people’s conception of what is aesthetically valuable.
