PowerChoice – 10 - group show - Harbour - NYC

through August 4th 2013
Nicole Killian, Ryder Ripps, and Sandy Smith

Curated by Max Schreier

Harbor is pleased to present PowerChoice – 10, a three person exhibition on view for as long as it takes to beat The Legend of Zelda. The 54 useful colors generated by the Ricoh RP2C02 Picture Processing Unit (PPU) are brilliant and pervasive. For artists who are emerging at the moment, the Nintendo Entertainment System’s colors afforded by this PPU were often one of the first instances of beautiful, intense, and selective hues. The blues, purples, and greens were more saturated than anything that came over television airwaves in the mid to late 1980s. Watching the surreal images change as the the side scrolling screen moved avatars through imagined space was often prominent in shaping young people’s conception of what is aesthetically valuable.
