Karin Sander - n.b.k. - Berlin

For her solo show at Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Sander has planned an intervention that takes up an everyday act and translates it to space as sculpture by using a banal and devalued material. Through the ceiling of the exhibition space, which is the floor of the n.b.k. offices above, she has had 30-centimeter-wide holes drilled in the places where usually the wastepaper baskets are located. The holes replace the wastepaper baskets, and visibly link administrative practice with the practice of exhibition. Karin Sander captures the everyday gesture of disposal by instructing the n.b.k. employees to ignore the fact that the wastepaper baskets are missing.

The space will be used as an architectural stage… I’m considering using a screen for projections and a hiding place for me during the performance…

I’ll be acting with the video as background, I will be a live integration to the projection cone making up a shadow play… a “mise en abîme”

There will be several different videos/films projected during the performance like “The anchor stone” a video shot in 2010 in the rocky islands, and shores of Marseille’s bay.

Jonathan Horowitz - Art History - Sadie Coles HQ - London

Jonathan Horowitz's latest exhibition with Sadie Coles HQ, Art, History, comprises a major new body of work which responds to the minimalist works on permanent display at the Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington DC. Combining sculpture, installation and video, Horowitz mounts a subtle critique of the use of minimalist aesthetics as a means of memorialising the Holocaust, while exploring wider concepts of collective memory and the malleability of visual signs and symbols.

Anna Ostoya - Bortolami Gallery - NYC

Bortolami Gallery is pleased to present the first New York solo exhibition of works by the Polish artist Anna Ostoya. The show will feature a series of new collages on canvas entitled Exposures that were all made during February 2011. For this series, Ostoya staged a durational performance. Each day, she began a new work with the aim of finishing 28 canvases-as many as there are days in February-by the time of the opening on March 1st.

Andreas Schulze - Sprueth Magers - Berlin

Ever since the 1980s, Andreas Schulze has focused on various interior views of our society. Most often, his works depict everyday landscapes and bourgeois idylls which he constructs as subtle, parallel worlds to reality. His early paintings consist of intensely colored compositions in which the dimensions of sculptural globes and other geometrical forms are shifted and inner pictorial perspectives constantly change. Schulze situates motifs which relate to the formal language of Conceptual Art and Minimal Art in illusionistic spaces which above all seek sensory experience, humor and immediate contact with the viewer.
