Chris Succo - NU ERA - Fiebach, Minninger - Cologne

fiebach, minninger is pleased to present NU ERA, the first solo exhibition by Düsseldorf and London based artist ChrisSucco at the gallery.The exhibition brings together two new series of paintings and initiates and reflects Succos newest artistic practices inwhich he turns mainly to two dimensional wall pieces. In addition to the programmatic focus on painting and its boundaries a coexisting “storyline” to his previous materials, techniques and motifs is recognizable. Through referring to hisartistic program he takes on the minimalistic and abstract rhetoric of his previous work but extends it formally and conceptually. The first series of paintings is reminiscent of Succos known work in which he paints over photographic paperwith layers of lacquer to create an abstract image space. The new paintings operate in a similar fashion, albeit this timewith black and white paint, which is sprayed directly onto aluminum panels. This produces ambivalent image systemsof abstract, rough surfaces and clear geometric shapes. Another self-reference is the use of the black shadow gap frames,which have become Succos trademark.

Alice Channer - Cold Blood - Lisa Cooley - NYC

Alice Channer’s work traces the disappearance, mutation, and possible evolution of a body and of materials in post-industrial environments. Her works are made up of flat surfaces that she pleats, curves, stretches, expands and contracts to explore sculptural concerns of volume, dimension and weight. By treating the surfaces, materials and processes that make up our post-industrial environment in this way, she asks what it is to be embodied in relation to these flat places, be these technological, industrial, virtual or commercial.

Willem de Rooij - Black And Blue - Chantal Crousel - Paris

Since 2009, the artist has taken his inspiration from the structural polarity of woven fabric and thus initiated a reflection around contrast and nuance. These weavings aim to generate meaning through the material they are made of, not through external references. For this exhibition, Willem de Rooij presents four handwoven works and a large wax print on cotton.

Rather than a treated surface, like that of a painting, these woven works are created by use of different mixtures of synthetic polyester sewing thread. Conceived as one installation, the five works make use of the same two colors : black and blue.

Everett's new paintings are focused on what he refers to as "systems of support," in which the floor, wall and body are all implicated, collaborating within the mix of the visual dynamic. Everett uses non-traditional mediums such as salt, alcohol, and lemon, creating tension through limitations and at the same time entertaining the phenomenological and alchemical. Harnessing this static, the work appears foreign within the studio, until it articulates a presence and reality of its own. Through this concern Everett allows the practice itself to make both form and movement manifest.

As an artist, Matias Faldbakken came to international prominence with his disconcerting, direct and provocative position, and as a writer, he also made a name for himself as an enfant terrible of the literary scene with his “Scandinavian Misanthropy” trilogy. His art is based on an engagement with social norms in which he approaches popular culture with gestures that combines refusal and destruction with productive forms of chaos and vandalism – a strategy embodied in “Untitled” from 2010 (with Anders Nordby): the entire exhibition space is covered with the powder from emptied fire extinguishers.
