Gagosian Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new large-scale sculptures and videos by Mike Kelley. This is Kelley’s first exhibition with the gallery in Los Angeles.

Kelley has made nostalgia, memory, and repression in everyday life the topics of his idiosyncratic sculptures, performances, paintings, and installations, which conflate vernacular sources and high modernist aesthetics. A veteran of the Los Angeles conceptual art scene, Kelley uses deconstructive strategies in order to challenge the established norms of contemporary culture, both high and low.

Michael Krebber - Mauren Paley - London

Maureen Paley is pleased to announce a solo presentation of new work by Michael Krebber. This will be Krebber’s third exhibition at the gallery. For several decades Krebber has investigated painterly issues, but his praxis is far from the bravura and self-assurance that formalist painting has traditionally represented. Instead of attacking – with full force, so to speak – selected painterly issues, Krebber takes a far more subtle, careful approach where strategies like deferral, hesitation and even artistic failure are applied. Throughout his highly influential career Krebber has maintained a relatively limited production and has constantly avoided pigeonholing within a particular style or mode of production. His whole oeuvre takes the form of a long succession of digressions or evasive actions, where the lack of focus and stability may seem to be the only unifying criterion one can find.

The Directors of Thomas Dane are pleased to present a collaboration with New York gallerist Miguel Abreu and with Robin Mackay and Tobias Huber of Urbanomic. The latter is a unique organisation based in the UK, which aims to address crucial issues in contemporary philosophy and science in relation to contemporary art practice. The project at Thomas Dane Gallery takes the form of an exhibition, a public discussion, a film screening and a publication, over the course of a four-week period.

Sergej Jensen - MoMA/PS1 - NYC

MoMA PS1 presents Sergej Jensen, the first solo exhibition of the Berlin-based artist at a New York museum.

Jensen's poetic artworks provide a fresh approach to Minimalist painting. Employing a wide range of textiles, the artist uses additive and subtractive physical methods like bleaching, fraying, or sewing to stand in for the traditional gestures of pure painting. Through these processes, Jensen creates fragile and quiet abstractions that become contemplations of the history and reuse of his chosen materials, and conjure a network of visual and visceral associations from the stains, holes, cracks, and other traces of use that in turn become his primary pictorial elements.

Natalie Sutinen - In Between Sleep and Sleep - Gallerie Niklas Belenius - Stockholm

Natalie Sutinen has moved on in her work with the immediate, magical object. In the exhibition In between sleep and sleep, works are shown from an ongoing study of time, where the artist discontinues a logical chronology on behalf of the irrational, and creates a room where time is movement.

Time becomes a wet slippery soap in the hand. Incomprehensible traces, memories and dreams are gathered in floating grey zones. In the images and artefacts there are remains of faded generations. Previous pleasures and gravities live on in a dark or light coloured hair, under closed eyes, in a wing or in a feather. Here we find reminders of destinies and persons who no longer are available to tell us the truth about the past. At the same time it is like you somehow know anyway.

Stuart Elliot - Seventeen Gallery - London

Multiple canvases, equally sized, are installed close together on the gallery walls. So close, in fact, that it is hard to experience one of them without the presence of another bleeding into the percept. This is a phenomenon of quite some significance. A salient, though by no means unique example of what we might call the ethics of painterly deflection running throughout this exhibition.

About deflection. In abstraction, this might be understood as a sort of moving away from the idea. Not showing the idea fully - and certainly not being it.
