dwelling, the fourth exhibition in the gallery’s uptown location, uses the former private residence as both backdrop and point of departure. Featuring works that incorporate elements of everyday items into their various forms, both explicit and intimated, the ideas of home and domestic spaces are (re)interpreted within this object-like focus. The works, like the emptied rooms they inhabit and the corners they haunt, often become vehicles for remembrance and association distinctive to inner, personal arenas.

Incorporating a wide range of media including installations, sculptures, photographs, and video, the works in this show examine the various formats that entertainment takes today, including the commercial display, the television commercial, the popular spectacle, and the corporate sponsored event, in an attempt to either undermine or elevate them from within.

The Rudolf and Ute Scharpff Collection - Kunstmuseum Stuttgart

For museums the exchange with private collectors is becoming increasingly important. A new series of exhibitions in the Kunstmuseum aims to make the engagement of these art patrons visible. The first show presents Ute and Rudolf Scharpff, who have been collecting for over fifty years and in the 1960s initially concentrated on the Nouveaux Réalistes. Today their collection comprises art by the Zero Group and German and American contemporary painting.

All of this and nothing is the sixth in the Hammer Museum’s biennial invitational exhibition series, which highlights work of Los Angeles-based artists, both established and emerging, alongside a number of international artists. Over the course of the last decade, Barnaby Furnas’ paintings have become embroiled in explosive and spectacular imagery, tapped from the giddy sensations of gloried depictions of violence throughout American history and contemporary culture. His subjects draw on latent and fully expressed aggression in scenes of war, rock concerts, and portraits of martyrs and military personages. What Furnas’ paintings unerringly communicate is an immediate sense of dynamic energy, forcefully professing their subject matter and rendering action as an image both in and of the act of painting.

Flotsam and Jetsam - group exhibition - Badischer Kunstverein - Karlsruhe

The project FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, initiated by artists Jacob Dahl Jürgensen and Simon Dybbroe Møller, encompasses sculptural objects, a vinyl record and a film. The objects were constructed with materials that a group of artist friends found during a stay on a small volcanic island. As well as existing as autonomous sculptural forms, these objects were treated as musical instruments and used to make sound recordings which can be heard on a vinyl record in the exhibition space. The film documents the course of the collective search and the improvisation with the found materials.
