Instinct for the Actual brings together five artists who administer a sensual relationship with our rapidly developing immaterial worlds: At times there is a battle between romantic notions of the self as opposed to the rationale of sys- tems of reproduction, especially as manifested in digital and lens-based culture. They combat the failings of Fyodor Dostoyevksy's character in White nights who laments, "...it begins to seem to me at such times that I am incapable of beginning a life in real life, because it has seemed to me that I have lost all touch, all instinct for the actual, the real..."
